  • File format: JPEG / RGB (not CMYK)
  • Maximum file size: 240 KB
  • Finish: matte (non-glossy) for printed submissions

Head position

  • Head height (chin to top of hair): 70-80% of frame (target ~80%, ~41 mm)
  • Eye line from bottom: ~30 mm (~1.18 in), roughly 55-63% of frame
  • Head position: centered, facing forward, no tilt

  • Religious headgear: permitted if worn regularly and does not obscure facial features
  • Non-religious hats / head coverings: not permitted

Other rules

  • Photo must have been taken within the last 6 months
  • Color photo only (RGB)
  • No filters, retouching, or appearance-altering edits

Notes

  • Some Kantor Imigrasi offices may state slightly different head-height percentages in their printed flyers; the 70-80% range covers the published variants.

Can I wear glasses in my Indonesian passport photo?

No — glasses are prohibited. Frames or lenses may obscure the eyes, so Imigrasi rejects passport photos taken with glasses on. This is stricter than the Singapore (ICA) rule, which allows prescription glasses without glare.

Can I wear a head covering in the photo?

Religious headgear is permitted as long as it is worn regularly and does not obscure facial features. Non-religious hats and head coverings are not permitted.

Can I smile in an Indonesian passport photo?

No. Imigrasi requires a neutral expression with mouth closed — no smile and no teeth showing. Eyes must be open and looking directly at the camera.

How recent does the passport photo need to be?

The photo must have been taken within the last six months and must reflect your current appearance — no filters, retouching, or appearance-altering edits.

What file format and size does Imigrasi accept?

JPEG / RGB (not CMYK), with a maximum file size of 240 KB. The image must be 51 × 51 mm (600 × 600 px at 300 DPI), 1:1 square aspect ratio, on a red (#FF0000) background.

The same checks the authority will run — before you submit.

  • Face height & eye line measured from the pupil midpoint with sub-pixel accuracy, clamped to the tolerance range your authority publishes.
  • Background colour checked across a sampled grid — catches gradients and fringe from poor segmentation (ΔE < 3 against spec).
  • File-size ceiling enforced per-spec — recompressed silently for sub-60 KB e-visa portals, lossless for print.
  • Sharpness & expression guards warn on blur, closed eyes, or non-neutral expressions before you export.
