5 government-specification photo formats.

Last verified 2026-05-31 against Passport Seva / Ministry of External Affairs; Indian Visa Online; OCI Services; Protean PAN application guidance

Overview

SpecSnap supports five India presets: Passport, Visa, eVisa, OCI, and PAN Card. They are not a single interchangeable photo format. Passport uses 35 × 45 mm, 630 × 810 px, a relatively large 80%–85% face crop, white background, and a 250 KB JPEG ceiling. Visa and OCI use a 2 × 2 in square (51 × 51 mm) with 600 × 600 px output and a smaller 50%–69% head range. PAN uses a 25 × 35 mm portrait, 295 × 413 px, for the application form’s photograph slot.

Passport Seva and overseas Indian missions publish passport guidance, while Indian Visa Online and OCI Services provide their own upload instructions. Protean publishes PAN form instructions. Domestic PSK / POPSK passport appointments capture the photo on-site; check the application channel before preparing an upload.

Use a recent, unaltered, front-facing color photo with clear eyes and even lighting. Passport photos require white and no glasses; the visa preset also uses white, while OCI and PAN guidance allows a plain light background. The regular visa preset has a 300 KB JPEG ceiling. The separate eVisa preset produces a 600 × 600 px square JPEG for digital upload, requires 10 KB–1 MB, and does not permit glasses; its portal permits a plain light or white background. The 600 × 600 px output is an app choice, not a fixed pixel size stated by the current public eVisa instructions. Check the specific portal for OCI or PAN file requirements rather than applying passport limits to every document.

Frequently asked questions

How many India photo presets does SpecSnap support?

Five: Passport, Visa, eVisa, OCI, and PAN Card. Each follows its own application guidance.

Is there one standard Indian ID photo size?

No. Passport uses 35 × 45 mm and 630 × 810 px; Visa and OCI use a 51 × 51 mm square and 600 × 600 px; PAN uses a 25 × 35 mm portrait and 295 × 413 px.

Can I reuse my Indian passport crop for a visa or OCI?

Do not reuse it unchanged. Passport has a taller frame and an 80%–85% face crop, while Visa and OCI use a square with a 50%–69% head range. Prepare the document-specific crop from the original image and check the portal’s upload rules.

What should I know about the Indian passport upload?

The preset uses 630 × 810 px with a 250 KB JPEG ceiling and a white background. Glasses are not permitted. Domestic PSK / POPSK appointments capture the photo on-site; overseas mission uploads follow their own published instructions.

What should I check before submitting an Indian application photo?

Choose the correct document and application channel, then check dimensions, head size, background, and upload limits. Use a recent sharp photo with clear eyes, no shadows, and no facial edits. The passport, regular visa and eVisa file limits differ. eVisa requires a square JPEG between 10 KB and 1 MB and no glasses.
